L.A.’s South Bay Fun Run & Beer Garden

The entry fee is $30 until Jan 7, then $35 and rises to $40 on-site at the pre-race Expo, which is Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at the King Harbor parking lot. This is where you pick up your race packet if you’ve registered in advance.
You can register on-line at the 10K website, or at the Village Runner stores in Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach. You can save the small processing fee by registering in person at the latter locations.

The race takes place in Redondo Beach in the Los Angeles South Bay on Super Bowl Sunday.
The start and finish line is on Harbor Drive at King Harbor Marina. The course runs up Catalina Ave., through Riviera Village, down the scenic Esplanade with full views of the Pacific Ocean from Malibu to Catalina Island, and ends back at King Harbor.
After the race, runners are treated to a rockin’ beer garden in Seaside Lagoon. With a couple of thousand people in the beer garden, it’s one of the South Bay’s top singles events.
It’s also the biggest Super Bowl party of the day in the South Bay, although the beer garden winds down at about 11 a.m., and the game doesn’t start for several hours.
More than 8,000 people take part in this event, which makes it one of the largest 10Ks on the West Coast.
In addition to the 10K, there’s a baby buggy 10K and a 5K walk/run.
There’s also a costume contest and several people – and groups – dress up in outfits as if it were Halloween.
If you think this run is more about fun than setting blazing times, you are correct.
