Run On Your Own & No Beer Garden

Redondo Beach, Super Bowl 10K

The 2021 Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K is on, although it will be a virtual race.
This means people who sign up will not run the course as part of the usual 7,000 participants but rather do their own race and send in the results to the organizers. You still pay and entry fee and get a t-shirt and participant medal.
The cost is $30 for the 5K and 10K events (normally it’s $35 for the real thing). There will be an in-person expo in Seaside Lagoon on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5 and 6 to pick up their race packets and shirts. Officials will also mail them to runner for a TBD additional fee.
“We’d love to host a Live Event in 2021 to celebrate the yearly tradition, but after careful consideration and discussions, we have decided to transition to a Virtual Run Event this year,” officials have stated on its website. “Going virtual has let us reimagine our race to include unique experience, badges, and giveaways.”
Super Bowl Sunday is Feb. 7, and runners can do their virtual 10K anytime between then and when they sign up for it. Participants submit their results. Those results are on the honor system, so any Rosie Ruiz-types out there can cut some corners, so to speak, but that’s not very sporting for what is really a great community fun run.

Of course, there’s no beer garden at the finish line of a virtual race. Unless you create your own. There is, tho, a virtual costume contest.
