Rain Forecast For The 41st Annual Fun Run

Normally a showcase for the city and Southern California as a whole with great and sunny weather and a rocking beer garden, the 41st annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K may be a wet one.
The weather forecast calls for rain to arrive in the South Bay on Thursday – update, it DID rain on Thursday and with thunder and lightening to boot – and last thru Monday. That’s a bummer, especially since the Los Angeles Rams are playing in Super Bowl LIII.
Four straight days of rain in L.A., is almost unheard of, but it’s the second time this month of an extended period of wet weather.
The race will be chilly as well as wet. The low on Sunday is 53. The high is forecast to be just 60 degrees.
But rain or shine, the race will go on, and while it may dampen some spirits, it may lift others. I’ve run in the rain a couple of times and once you get over the fact that “dang, it’s raining!,” it’s pretty much business as usual. People dress in costumes, residents line the streets and play music for the runners there is the overall “fun run” atmosphere.
And yes, there is still a beer garden. It’s not the same as when it’s sunny and some folks – myself included – stay until the Michelob Ultra people put the very last remaining beer in the truck. It’s more along the lines of “let’s get our two beers and go home and change to get ready for the game” but in some ways, it’s more fun because diehards seem to accelerate their partying in bad weather.
This, by the way, will be the first 10K in several years in which I will not be running, and it has nothing to do with the weather. My right knee swelled up recently due to strained ligaments, and I have been unable to run to get in shape for it.
That’s a bummer because I enjoy the 10K, rain or shine.
