Los Angeles Horse Race Track Pouring The Brews With Horses

On Dec. 26, the track opens for racing between noon-5 p.m. For $35 you get clubhouse admission, eight three-ounce tastes of craft beer (or cider) and a 12-ounce beer or cocktail. For $65, you get 16 three-ounce tastes. Oh, and a Santa Anita hat.
You can get $10 off by filling out a form at this link: www.santaanita.com
It’s actually a craft beer and cider festival, and there are also more than a dozen food trucks in the infield of the facility.
Yet if beer (or cider) is not your thing, for $85 you can go to the whiskey tasting. This is in the Chandelier Room and includes a catered lunch, six whiskey tastings and live music. Note that access to the Chandelier Room comes with a dress code: no shorts, t-shirts, sandals or baseball caps. Jeans are okay but must be worn with a collared shirt or blazer.
Other events involving alcohol at the track include Burger & Brewfest on Jan. 14 and the Sunshine Millions Wine Festival on Jan. 28.
With all these booze events, you might think track officials are trying to keep your attention off the horses, but in fact they are just social diversions, for betting on the races is a pretty fun activity. PubClub.com chooses horses by their names and jockeys from Venezuela (note that this does not always work) and any Irish horses or jockeys for when they run on the grass on the inside track (this is a more reliable method of picking winners).
And when the day is done, all the fun single people at the track like to have a parting cocktail (or two) at Sirona’s bar.
