A Pub Crawl Of Dive Bars, A Tiki Bar & More In The Los Angeles South Bay
Again.
The 2016 El Segundo Easter Keg Hunt proved that this is one event everyone should put on their annual South Bay Los Angeles social/party calendar. It consisted of about 70 teams, four to five people each, who scattered about this normally sleepy Southern California town in search of hidden kegs of beer decorated as Easter eggs.
Naturally, there are bars involved. That’s where teams get their clues to find the kegs. And let it be stated here that while some teams are diligently devoted to finding them others – such as Team PubClub.com – are far more interested in the social activity of the bars.
So in essence, the Keg Hunt (which, to be fair, gives all profits from the entry fee to charity) is a fine excuse for a pub crawl.
Costumes are a big part of it, too, and in 2016 there were several pilots and stewardess (no reason to be politically correct here by calling them “flight attendants”), a couple of guys in an awesome Chinese dragon suit, Hulk Hogan wrestlers, a group in full snow skiing gear (including the boots and skis!) and of course lots of people with bunny ears.
Organizers also attached whistles to several of the lanyards, so you can just imagine what happened in the bars when you combine several beers and people with whistles!
The party – er hunt – started at the host bar, Tavern On Main, which organizes the entire event. This is where the teams gather to register and at its peak, some 300 people filled the bar’s back parking lot. There was even a band, which added to the fun atmosphere.
After all, drinking beers outside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with a bunch of wildly dressed people and live music certainly sets the tone for a fun day.
Most bars had beer specials, but it was hard to have beers in the Purple Orchid, El Segundo’s authentic tiki bar. It is a long-standing PubClub.com policy to have rum drinks in a tiki bar! (See photo.)
Other bars on the crawl were Standard Station, The Patio, Richmond Bar & Grill and Rock & Brews.
The most lively bar was – as always seems to be the case – the dive bar, The Office. There’s just something about that place that inspires no-holds-barred liveliness. Maybe it’s the sexy bartenders in bunny ears pouring shots.
Enjoy these photos and the video from another great event.
Cheers!
