Kegs, Not Eggs, Are Hidden In This Fun Event With Clues In The Bars

You read that right. Keg, and not egg, hunt. It’s Saturday, March 31 and goes from roughly noon-6 p.m. The meeting spot is the Tavern On Main (123 Main Street. El Segundo, CA).
So what is the Easter Keg Hunt? It’s an excuse for groups of people to drink beer, of course! But instead of just showing up with no direction or purpose, the Keg Hunt gives them a mission.
Specifically, that mission is to locate empty kegs of beer that are hidden around the town.

The clues are, of course, in the bars. And to add even more spice to things, participants have to play silly games at the bars, like knocking down a stack of beer cans using a slingshot and riding “horses” in a race on an inflatable course that is most definitely not the Kentucky Derby.
There are 100 four-person teams – and don’t be shy about signing up! – and they are all in costume. It’s hilarious to walk down the streets of this this quiet town adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport and suddenly see a group of people dressed as, say, bunnies, waking around a neighborhood carrying a keg painted like an Easter egg.
The Keg Hunt is really just a crazy excuse for a pub crawl, because it’s going from bar to bar that is the heart and soul of this event. All afternoon, each bar has a couple dozen people in them, rotating every half hour or so as they continue their quest for clues.
How they get away with this in El Segundo, a town so conservative I refer to it as the Mayberry R.F.D . of Los Angeles, is a mystery. But just be glad that they do, because even for “spectators,” this event is fun.
The group meets at the designated bar (Tavern On Main) for a launch party of sorts, then scatters about town to look for the clues. The first bar is the only time everyone is all together, at least until the end.
By then, some teams have given up and are scattered about the town’s various bars.
Most of these bars are mostly small dives, and you should see the looks on the face of the afternoon regulars when the fun and youthful people of the Keg Hunt roll into their personal watering hole.
The event is free for anyone who wants to tag along, and here’s a list of the bars:
• Tavern On Main
• The Patio
• Richmond Bar & Grill
• Purple Orchid
• Standard Station
• The Office
• Brewport Tap House
