Gardena Brewery Seeks To Be Out Of This World
When I heard that another craft brewery was opening in the South Bay section of L.A., my first thought was “what, another one!?”
After all, with nearly a dozen in this small area just east of Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo Beach, we seem to be overflowing with breweries like foam spilling out of a red solo cup at a house party.
But then I went to Ximix Craft Exploration in Gardena and after a single sip of its perfect-for-a-warm-day-in-a-brewpub Starseeker Blonde, I amended my initial position: “What me, complaining about another place to drink beer!? How foolish. Welcome to the community!”
Upon further sips, I began to think about the business aspect of it. Ximix is very close to SpaceX. Bingo! Instant potential regular and local customers.
Gardena also now has two breweries – State Brewing opened in 2016 – and neighboring Hawthorne also has two, with Lomita likely to add one in the fall. So that means this area of the South Bay is becoming a bit of a craft beer hub, much like has already happened in nearby Torrance.
I was first at Ximix with a few of my dude friends on a sunny Saturday. It was quiet inside but we could all see the potential. It has a wide variety of beers from light to stout and a large, open space for sitting and drinking. We watched golf on one of the big flat-screen TVs and pictured this place buzzing with SpaceX workers and other futuristic folks.
Ximix, you see, is a space-aged brewery. It’s going with a space theme – one of its beers is called the Lost Astronaut – and wants to be out of this world.
Already it’s rocketing out of its own launch pad, for it has one of its beers on tap at Standard Station in El Segundo and will soon be at other South Bay bars by the beach.
So bring it on Ximix – the South Bay can never have enough beers and places to drink them.
