SAINT ROCKE MUSIC
There’s dueling pianos tonite ($8), Saturday it’s the Pink Floyd Tribute band Which One’s Pink ($15) and Sunday a Lindsey Harper CD release party ($10). Lindsey is the talented girl who often plays the half-priced Thursday wine nights at the Portofino bar. Next Saturday it’s the Spazmatics!
SPRING FOOTBALL
Where I come from there’s a saying that there are only two sports in the South – football and spring football! Well that latter time is here and college teams have been playing their spring games the past week. You can watch SEC teams on the SEC Network but when it comes the Big Boys, ESPN calls out the big guns and puts it on the flagship network, so the ESPN will be carrying it at noon. Expect somewhere around 85,000 fans to be in the stands.
USC is holding its spring game this Saturday in the Coliseum at 3 p.m. By the way, Lynn Swann is USC’s new athletic director. UCLA’s spring game – which it calls the “Spring Showcase” – is next Saturday at Drake Stadium at 11:30 a.m. Both teams are charging for the game, $10 for USC (plus $15 for parking) and $10 in advance, $15 at the gate for UCLA.
Really, they are charging for a spring game!? Guess the administrators are more concerned about making a buck than making an impression on media, fans and recruits across the country by having big crowds.
GRACEBAND AT BAY CLUB CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL

Get rid of those “Suspicious Minds,” the full-on Elvis band Graceband is playing the Oceanfront Craft Festival and Concert Series at Bay Club in Redondo Beach’s King Harbor, Saturday, April 23.
The event features craft beer samples as well as Deep Eddy vodka and Coldcock bourbon. The cost is $25. It goes from 2-6 p.m.
Also playing with Graceband is The Lucky Ones. It’s put on by Berry Bly Productions. Social media hashtag: #berryblyproductions.

ROAD TRIP! THE BOONVILLE BEER FESTIVAL
Here’s something to put on your end-of-April beer-drinking calendar: The Boonville Beer Festival on April 30. This is in a tiny town in Mendocino County surrounded by wineries, but the Anderson Valley Brewing Company is also there and hosts this event with 80 craft and microbreweries from all over Northern California and beyond.
PubClub went to it a couple of years ago and it’s a very fun time. The way to really do it is camp in the campground. Here’s a review of the Boonville Beer Festival.
PUBCLUB.COM IS HEADED TO TAIWAN!
Here’s a road trip I didn’t plan on – Taiwan! But I won a free flight there at a Taiwan Tourism event this week so I’ll be boarding a China Airlines big bird to Taipei.
At this time, it’s just a single coach ticket with no accommodations attached but hopefully the Taiwan PR person can come through in that area. Still, since I never win anything it came as quite a shock!
Here’s the PubClub Travel Blog Post.
