Here’s what’s happening on the last weekend of July – in the literal heat of summer. It’s always hot in more ways than one in the South Bay!
NATIONAL HAMBURGER DAY IS THURSDAY
The best burgers in town are at Ercoless and the second-best are at HBYC. The latter has more varieties – I’m a big fan of the Commodore Burger with mushrooms – plus it has those awesome HBYC chips, which are very thick-cut homemade chips.
National Scotch Day by the way is Wednesday and International Beer Day, is Aug. 5,
LINGERACE SANTA MONICA
Girls in lingerie! What’s not to like about that, right? Well these girls are playing volleyball in a tournament Saturday in Santa Monica that also involves beach yoga. It’s the Lingerace beach volleyball tournament and it features 200 female athletes from amateurs to AVP & NVL & USA National Volleyball Team pros all coming together to play and to support the “I Am An Athlete Against Bullying Campaign.” Here’s the schedule:
8:30 AM: Beach Groove YOGA
9:00 AM: – 2:00 PM Lingerace Beach Volleyball Pool Play 2 on 2
1:00 PM Beach Grove YOGA
2:00 PM: Mens 4 on 4 Exhibition Game
AVP PROS The Mckibbin Brothers and United States Men’s National Volleyball Team Member Dustin Watten play in a 4 on 4 Exhibition Game.
3:00 PM: Women’s Lingerace Playoffs
6:00 PM: Women’s LingerAce Finals for 1,000 Cash Prize to Winners

LINGERACE BIKE RIDE FROM THE SOUTH BAY
Who needs a party bus when we have bikes!? Let’s take a ride up to Santa Monica (about an hour and a half from Hermosa), check out the tournament, then hit a couple bars on the way back to the South Bay!
A couple good ones are Venice Whaler and the smallest bar in Los Angeles, the Harbor Room in Playa del Rey. We should start our journey at 11 a.m., meeting in Hermosa.

Here’s a new PubClub.com and Party Report feature I came up with on the weekend after showing a long-time local a great deal in one of our local bars. He loved it and never knew about it, so with this and others, there’s always a need to share PubClub’s insight into out local knowledge. I’m also open to taking suggestions and it just doesn’t have to be in the South Bay.
SMACKFEST REVIEW & PHOTOS
It was another FUN event! It’s a real tribute to Bill Sigler, all his helpful hands at Smackfest events, the sponsors and of course the players and locals who know how to behave that Smackfest 2016 was another huge success and South Bay blast! Here’s photos and a review from last Saturday’s beach-and-bars party!

FishBar has cut its Happy Hour back to 5:30 (starts at 2:30) and no longer has reverse Happy Hour at night…Sharkeez has the same Happy Hour (3-7, M-F) and daily specials as the one in Hermosa… You surely know about the great tacos and Taco Tuesday but have you had the stirfry at OB’s? It’s awesome! And it’s a buck off on Wednesdays….Pancho’s has karaoke on Tuesday and Thursdays and of course the great rock cover band Day After Daze on weekends.

The next mixer is Thursday, Aug. 4 at Standing Room, 6-9. It’s free! There’s live acoustic music (although last time the guy played so loud he drowned out conversations so hopefully they will tune it down this time), an extended Happy Hour ‘till 7 with $5 wines, a burger and beer special and excellent professional and personal networking and mingling opportunities.
