Torrey Pines Science Park has a new restaurant. Playa Kitchen is a coastal-inspired cafe serving breakfast and lunch. On the Torrey Pines Mesa across from the golf course, it offers splendid views of the coastline and Pacific Ocean.
The indoor/outdoor restaurant features exposed ceilings and retractable garage doors that open to an expansive outdoor patio. It has a 40-seat dining room, 17-seat bar lounge and a 1,100-square-foot patio with seating for up to 28.
Breakfast highlights include the Think Tank Bowl with red potato hash, egg whites, caramelized onion, roasted mushroom, spinach, cherry tomatoes, avocado and feta, priced at $17; a ham, cheese and egg croissant with spicy aioli, priced at $14; and an acai bowl topped with maple almond granola, banana, peanut butter, coconut and mixed berries for $14. The lunch menu include salads, bowls, sandwiches and wraps. Highlights include a roasted herb-marinated chicken salad with green goddess dressing, priced at $19; a tuna poke bowl with brown rice, seaweed salad and confit garlic ponzu, priced at $18; the On the Grind Burger with sharp cheddar and roasted garlic aioli on a potato bun, priced at $19; a curry chicken wrap, priced at $17; and beer-battered fish tacos with chipotle crema and avocado for $17.
Beer and wine is available at the bar and there will eventually be a Happy Hour.
“Playa was created to reflect the way people work and connect today,” said Andy Masi, founder of Clique Hospitality. “More than just a place to dine, it’s an elevated, design-forward café that feels both productive and restorative. It’s a space where you can move seamlessly from morning coffee to a working lunch to an afternoon reset, all while feeling grounded in the coastal environment.”
It is open Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Parking is free, which is something that seems to be somewhat of a luxury in San Diego these days.
Playa is from Clique Hospitality which has several restaurants in San Diego: Joya Kitchen in La Jolla; Lionfish Modern Coastal Cuisine at Pendry San Diego; Serẽa Coastal Cuisine at Hotel Del Coronado; Temaki Bar: Handroll, Sushi, Sake in Encinitas; SET Steak & Sushi at Pendry Newport Beach; Lilian’s and Bing’s Bar at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe; and The Pool House at Pendry San Diego.
Torrey Pines Science Park is a 25-acre coastal life science/office campus.
