Bands, Samba Dancers & A Hula Hoop Show Highlight Spring Fling 5
A free, full day of music, artists and, well, free spirits, is taking place on Venice Beach, CA, on Saturday, May 21.
It’s the sixth annual Venice Spring Fling, and it features bands on a stage, dancers, hula hoops and more in a full expression of the spiritual essence of life that is Venice Beach.
The event goes from 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m., at Windward Plaza Park, which is halfway between the Venice and Santa Monica piers, between the sidewalk and bike path.
The bands include the Gregg Douglas Band (he’s played with Van Morrison, Eddie Money and the Steve Miller Band), punk band Meet Me at the Pub, Rawhide and local alternative reggae band The Signal.
Each band will play one set and at the end there’s an All-Star jam.
Plus there are stage performances by dancers – including Samba and belly dancers – and this year, a unique Hula Hoop show from Electric Hoops. Plus Dr. Bronner’s Magic Foam Experience.
After the music stops at the beach, it continues at Denny’s Venice from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Denny’s is located right behind the Spring Fling event, at 25 Windward Ave.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the level of talent we are able to offer the people of Venice this year at the Spring Fling,” said event producer Milton Rosenberg.
“These musicians and artists are world-class, and we’re able to celebrate them right here in our backyard. This festival was inspired by the original intent of Abbot Kinney: for Venice as a place to celebrate music, art, dance, and life, right here at the Pacific Ocean. Venice Spring Fling 5 celebrates the creative spirit in all of us.”
This is the sister event to the Venice Beach Music Fest, which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12.
It must be noted that this is a no-alcohol event because you can’t drink on the beaches in California. There are, however, several bars along the Venice sidewalk to quench the inevitable thirst caused by watching bands, being at the beach and enjoying a free festival on a weekend.
