Rams And Perhaps Chargers To Play In Inglewood, Home Of The Showtime Lakers
After more than 20 years of being more like the football follies, Los Angeles has finally scored by getting an NFL team.
And maybe two teams.
The NFL owners approved the Rams moving back to L.A. And soon to follow them could be the Chargers. But not the Raiders (this is something people in Los Angeles did not want and neither did the NFL).
Rams To Begin Play In 2016; Chargers Have To 2017 To Decide Future
The Rams will begin playing this season while the Chargers have until next year to make a decision about their future.
A stadium will be built in Inglewood at Hollywood Park and across from where the Showtime Los Angeles Lakers played at the “Fabulous Forum.” In the meantime the Rams return to their original home, the L.A. Coliseum.
So what does this mean for Los Angeles residents?
For one, it means we will be getting the Rams every week on TV. There will be construction and concession jobs. Los Angeles will get another Super Bowl.
It will give celebrities another place to be seen on TV and the sports media something else to cover in town.
Overall, tho, it really depends on how good the team(s) are when they take the field. Angelenos want a winner. You don’t come here just to come here, you come to win, baby. And you’ve got to look good while doing it.
A winner will create a buzz around town and going to games will be a “must do” happening. Stadium designers should include a red carpet entrance. The new stadium, which is projected to open for the 2019 season, promises to be a destination, giving the city a new attraction.
Lose, however, and interest will drop faster than a punt falling from the sky. Why do you think the Rams and Raiders left in the first place?
There’s simply too much to do in Los Angeles, too many distractions and too many other teams for the city to support perennial losers. And the Rams and Chargers haven’t exactly displayed that trait throughout their respective histories.
The impact of the NFL returning to Los Angeles will be immediate and exciting to many people. But the team(s) had better win on a consistent basis or that shiny stadium will be like yesterday’s Hollywood starlet.
