Oakland And Bay Area Ready To Celebrate Title
It won’t rain on their parade.
The weather forecast for Oakland calls for completely sunny conditions with near-perfect temperatures. The high is expected to be near 80 with a low of 58. There will only be a slight breeze of about 15 mph from the WSW.
Looks like June Gloom has disappeared like LeBron James for the parade.
If you’re traveling to the Bay Area for the parade and plan to spend the weekend in San Francisco, the weather is pretty much the same – just a few degrees cooler – into Saturday and Sunday.
Savvy Californians know to layer so start out wearing your Golden State Warriors sweatshirt, then peeling it off as the weather warms up to reveal your favorite t-shirt or jersey.
This happens to be a spectacular week of weather in Oakland, and the warm and sunny conditions are expected to stay this way throughout the weekend.
The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., and last a couple of hours, followed by a rally.
But really, for fans, players (media) and officials, it lasts a lot longer than that of course, Fans are told they can line up as early as 4 a.m. That may seem a bit ridiculous since the parade doesn’t start for another six hours, but for the team’s last victory celebration in 2015, people were lined up 20-30 deep in some places along the route.
The early lineup location is Lakeshore and 12th Street, which is location of the post-parade rally. Team officials are recommending going to either the parade or the rally as based on the previous celebration’s crowd, it will be impossible to get from the parade to the rally. Pick one or the other, they recommend.
There is an overflow viewing area located at Lake Merritt Blvd. & E 12th St., which will feature a live feed of both the the parade and the rally.
The parade starts at Broadway and 11th Street, then turn rights on Harrison to 19th St, and right on Lakeside Drive, ending on Oak and proceeding to the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center. Here is a Google map of the area.
BART will be providing rush hour service all day and will be using every available train. AC Transit buses will be rerouted in downtown Oakland as a result of the event.
Note that there will be a very large police presence and any violent behavior will be dealt with forcefully, so the team, city and officials will be on the lookout for anyone seeking to spoil the celebration.
