A Rundown Of St. Patrick’s Day San Diego Bars & Restaurants Beer And Food Specials

St. Patrick’s Day in San Diego is not just a one-day affair. It starts on the previous Saturday with a parade by Baloba Park, although the annual block party in the Gaslamp Quarter called SHAMRock is not taking place this year.

St. Patrick’s Day itself falls on a Tuesday this year. The parade and many pub crawls are on the previous Saturday. It is also the opening feed-in games for the March Madness NCAA men’s basketball tournament. H is a rundown of beer and food specials at restaurants and bars throughout the city.

Gaslamp Quarter

• El Chingon, goes green with two days of St. Patrick’s Day festivities, kicking off with  a Shamrock and Mimosas brunch on Sunday, March 15 and continuing with spirited drinks on Tuesday, March 17.

The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with the  Shamrock and Mimosas brunch. A live DJ will perform during brunch, and guests are encouraged to wear green. Standout offerings will include mimosas and festive cocktails alongside brunch dishes such as chilaquiles Chingones, house-made tortillas smothered in a choice of green or red salsa with two eggs, avocado, Chingón cheese blend, crema and refried beans, priced at $17; Chingón breakfast burrito, scrambled eggs, bacon, Chingón cheese blend, French fries, avocado and sour cream wrapped in a flour tortilla, priced at $12; huevos rancheros, two eggs, refried beans, ranchero sauce, sliced avocado and sour cream served on a tostada, priced at $19; and a choice of beef or ham with eggs, sour cream, refried beans and rice, served as a plate or in a burrito, priced at $19; among other brunch items. Reservations are recommended, as walk-in seating will be limited. Each reservation will include a mimosa and a brunch item, starting at $10. Reservations may be made by calling 817-870-9973 or through the Eventbrite website.

The celebration will continue on St. Patrick’s Day with drafts of green beer, priced at $6; and bottles of Jameson Irish Whiskey, priced at $200. To complement the drinks, guests can indulge in El Chingon’s signature dishes like the carne asada plate, grilled Angus skirt steak accompanied by sliced avocado, chiles toreados, onions, radish and pico de gallo served with rice, beans and choice of corn or flour tortillas, priced at $27; an array of flavorful taco selections, priced starting at $5; and more.

• The Smoking Gun iscelebrating St. Patrick’s Day from Saturday through Tuesday. It has Guinness green beer, and specialty cocktails like Jameson Mule ($11) made with Jameson, house ginger syrup, ginger beer, Angostura bitters, and lime, the Irish Slammer ($12) with Jameson, Irish cream, and Guinness, and a Jameson Flight ($14) featuring Jameson, Jameson Black Barrel, and Redbreast 12. Food specials include Irish Nachos ($12) with battered fries, beer cheese sauce, corned beef, pickled cabbage, sour cream, and Irish honey mustard, and a Corned Beef Melt ($14) made with shaved corned beef, smoked gouda, pickled cabbage, Irish mustard aioli, and red onions, all on toasted sourdough.

• Close by on 9th Ave., in Hotel Indigo San Diego – Gaslamp Quarter, Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails has a green draft pour of Stone Brewing’s Buenaveza Salt & Lime Lager, paired with a Lucky Charms shot, a combination of Jameson Irish Whiskey, lemon juice, lime juice, Midori and peach liqueur with a Lucky Charms marshmallow garnish, priced at $15; or snack on Shamrock Stacked Fries, a hearty, shareable dish layered with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and house-made Russian dressing, priced at $17.
Elsewhere In San Diego
• Karl Strauss Brewing Company’s nine Southern California brewpubs are offering its Red Trolley Ale, an Irish-style Red Ale for only $6 a pint on St. Patrick’s Day. To go along with it, the Crispy Brussels Sprouts (with beer-brined bacon) and Duck Fat Pretzel Bites are also only $6 each. Red Trolley Ale was originally brewed in 1989, the year Karl Strauss was founded, as the brewery’s first holiday ale. The promotion is for March 17 only, and Karl Strauss is located in Anaheim, Corona, Costa Mesa, Downtown LA, San Diego (4S Ranch, Carlsbad, Downtown, Sorrento Mesa), and Temecula.
