The Biggest Beach Party Of The Year In California

It’s the Over-The-Line tournament or, quite simply, the OTL. Put on by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (with money raised going to charity), the 2016 event is the 63rd event.
More than 50,000 people participate in it or just go to party, turning Fiesta Island into the biggest beach part of the year in California. Yes, it’ so big it takes two up two weekends in the heart of the good ‘ol summertime.
The OTL is a kind of beach softball tournament but of course, the fun, creative and lively organizers could not let it go at that, so they encourage the party and part of that is creative team names. It’s also the only time of the year when drinking on the beach is actually legal in San Diego.
It reaches its peak on the second Saturday – which is July 16 in 2016 – with the Miss Emerson contest.
The name comes from an old “knock knock” joke (see, told you the organizers were creative!) but is more than a big-boobs contest. Miss Emerson represents the club at functions throughout the year, so she’s a representative and must pass not just the eye-popping physical bikini judging but a personal interview, as well.
The OTL is a must-do fun party event for single people in and around San Diego. Go to it – oh, it’s free for spectators but don’t try to park on Fiesta Island so take a shuttle or Uber – and you’ll know why in an instant.
And bring beer.
