It’s Not So Grand For The Grand Tasting & Other Food And Drink Events
One of the “must do” events in San Diego and a top happening in the fall, will not be taking place this year.
The San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival has been canceled for 2020, officials have just announced. It was originally scheduled for the second week of November. The dates for the 2021 event will be Nov. 7-14, with the highlight Grand Tasting event coming on Saturday, the last day.
So San Diego loses another big event due to the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, ComicCon, the Over-The-Line tournament, the Saint Patrick’s Day parade and Gaslamp block party and concerts at San Diego Symphony’s new waterfront pavilion where the Beach Boys were due to perform, were all canceled.
It’s a bitter pill to swallow, much tougher than that delicious food and drink served at the various events-within-the-event, especially as the highly sought-after Grand Tasting on the Embarcadero.
Here is the statement from the Wine + Food Festival organizers:
Many of you have reached out asking if the 2020 San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival will be taking place as planned this year. As COVID-19 has had a large implication on live events, our team has been diligently working with both the local and state governments on various task forces so live events as we once knew them, can return.
Unfortunately for this year, due to the current climate of the pandemic and the various live event restrictions in place, we will be postponing the Grand Tasting and weeklong San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival to November 7 – 14, 2021.
Rest assured, our team is working on putting together a yearlong calendar comprised of virtual, hybrid and small gatherings so we can continue to enjoy good food and good drinks in smaller company. While we’ll miss celebrating with you this year as we have in years past, we look forward to finding new and creative ways to support our San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival restaurants, wineries and breweries during these uncertain times.
Thank you for being a part of our community. Stay well and stay tuned!
