There’s a concern among insiders about the state of San Diego Comic-Con in 2023.
The the ongoing WGA strike and a possible SAG-AFTRA strike has some major studios and streamers passing on this year’s event. A big blow is that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios would not be taking over Hall H for their traditional announcements. The dates for Comic Con San Diego 2023 are July 20-24.
But not to worry, ComicCon fans and attendees. The event will still be a success because of those who do go to it. And I’m taking primarily about the 150,000 people who come to San Diego for it. They dress in exotic costumes, go to the several pop-up displays put up by the studios and take over Fifth Ave., for a block party scene.

Founded in this city as the San Diego Comic Book Convention, Comic-Con is the biggest annual event here and 2023 will be no different. Sure, die-hards and purists might be turned off by missing participants and will surely lament that it’s “missing something this year.”
Still, they will be here, in their elaborate costumes – there’s enough Star Wars storm troopers roaming around to make another sequel – and filling up the street and bars in the Gaslamp Quarter. They will be spending money, posing for pictures and having another great time.
So yeah, maybe this year’s Comic-Con won’t measure up to past events from a convention standpoint due to the strikes and missing studios. But the people and their costumes still make it a top-notch time in San Diego.
