Excitement is high in San Diego for the 2026 Padres season and the East Village Association is again hosting its East Village Block Party on Opening Weekend, It is Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. The location is J Street from 7th to 10th avenues, which is in front of Petco Park. That leads directly into the baseball game as the pennant-seeking Padres host the Detroit Tigers at 4:15 p.m. The Padres home opener – and season opener – is Thursday, March 26 against Tigers with the first pitch for that game at 1:10 p.m.
As people who have been there at the block party before know, this is a fenced-off area with beer and spirits stations (pro’s tip: pick one away from one of the entrance gates because they often have a minimal line, if one at all), food vendors, games and live music from DJs and bands.
The event is free and you can come and go as you please.
“Each year, the East Village Block Party brings our community together in a way that truly embodies the spirit of our neighborhood,” said Dominic Li Mandri, District Manager of the East Village Association. “We’re proud to celebrate the return of Padres baseball right here in the heart of East Village, and it’s always a joy to welcome families, residents, and visitors to enjoy the food, culture, and creativity that define our community.”

This year’s music features DJ KIMMY and other DJs and bands, the Casa Octavio Patio Lounge,a classic car show and various sponsor activitations and tents. And yes, you can take your beer/cocktails with you to the stages, as well as anywhere within the fenced-off area. You will be required to show an i.d., to get a 21-and-over wristband.
Food vendors include El Rey Tacos a Vapor, Fuego Me Up, Golden Bear Barbeque, We Cookn and Doggos Gus, CAKED Teaspoon Boba and Jai Jus.
