It’s the start of the season when every team is a contender.
Even the Padres.
Hey, it’s not August yet, and to kick off the 2024 season the East Village Association is hosting its 12th Annual East Village Block Party on Opening Weekend, Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. The location is J Street from 7th to 10th avenues, which is in front of Petco Park. That leads directly into the baseball game as the pennant-seeking Padres host the San Francisco Giants at 4:30 p.m. Update: It has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 13.
As people who have been there before know, this is a fenced-off area with beer and spirits stations (pro’s tip: pick one away from one of the entrance gates because they often have a minimal line, if one at all), food vendors, games and live music from DJs and bands.
The event is free and you can come and go as you please.
This year’s music features Latin bands and 90s throwbacks and classics. The California Love Stage is hosted by East Village’s own DJ Artisti and also has DJ Boogie Blancoa and more. At the main US Bank stage, it’s Israel Maldonado Music, DJ Kid Wonder and Mariachi Dinastia. And yes, you can take your beer/cocktails with you to the stages, as well as anywhere within the fenced-off area. You will be required to show an i.d., to get a 21-and-over wristband.
Also, there will be representatives from the San Diego Legion, fitness activations hosted by East Village gyms Orangetheory Fitness and the BXNG Cub, a gaming area, photo opportunities with Mobius Pix and more local vendors.
Food vendors include El Rey Tacos a Vapor, Fuego Me Up, Golden Bear Barbeque, We Cookn and Doggos Gus, CAKED Teaspoon Boba and Jai Jus.
