The “go-to” bar of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, barleymash, has extended the times of its Happy Hour.
The popular San Diego restaurant and nightlife spot has added an hour to its daily Happy Hour. It now goes from 3-6 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Previously, as a couple friends and I discovered during a visit a few minutes too late, it ended at 5 p.m.
The Happy Hour specials are half off beers, wines, spirits and cocktails. That makes a draft beer price $4.50 and cocktails $7.50-8, which are really good anywhere and espeically in the Gaslamp. Also look out for daily food specials.
By going until 6, it should provide a boost in business, as locals will be able to go in after work for Happy Hour and convention goers can take advantage of it after their day’s obligations are fulfilled. It also provides an excuse to stay there for dinner and beyond, and barleymash has very good food. It is a well-run bar and restaurant, too, with a helpful and nice staff. The layout of barleymash is that of a long main bar, a smaller back bar and tables inside and out at its prime location at 5th Ave., and Market Street.
At night, it really kicks into high gear as the tables are removed and it becomes a mingling hotspot for San Diego’s singles. There’s also Ginger’s a downstairs bar inside of barleymash. The longer Happy Hour provides a good reason to go there earlier in the day.
