There’s a lot of magic happening in the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter these days.
Quite literally, too, with the opening of The Prestige Magic Lounge & Showroom on Fourth Ave., across from Balboa Theater between E and F streets.
This is an intimate magic (and comedy because most magicians are comedians, too) dinner show and bar featuring close-up magic from world-class magicians.
Intimate in that it seats less than 50 people at each of its two evening performances. The food is gourmet and served by staff in butler and maid outfits. There is also a small lounge in the front where people gather before the performances, have a drink or two and are entertained by a magician performing right-before-your-eyes tricks on top of the bar.
This is a more casual concept than the La Jolla location but it’s also classy. And it’s not necessarily inexpensive either; up to $150 for the show and three-course dinner (prices start at a very reasonable $60).
The dinner theater is in the back and you enter by going through the lobby’s fireplace. Dinner is served first, followed the the show. The entire thing lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours.
It’s unclear at this time whether or not you can just go in and sit at the bar, have a few drinks and see some magic. PubClu.com will find out, tho!
The Prestige Magic Lounge & Showroom is just one of many new nightlife entertainment places going in not just in the Gaslamp but in particular on Fourth Ave.
This area between E and G Streets are getting particularly robust with a hooka lounge replacing Tropical Savor, some potential upgrades or changes to Taste & Thirst, a “mystery bar” going into the former Hennessey’s and Sultan restaurant having just closed to make the way of something new (and exciting?).
Additionally, the minds behind Blind Burrow, Moonshine Flats and several other Gaslamp Quarter bars – Good Times Design – are revamping Patrick’s bar on F Street in the same area and are opening a new concept at the former Gaslamp Strip Club steakhouse, an American country-style bar and restaurant.
