Altitude Sky Lounge & Fairweather Bar Provide Views Inside The Stadium
Play ball!
The Padres are back in Petco Park. Except you can’t be there due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans – other than some cardboard cutouts – are not allowed in games.
Several people are anxious to see the games in person and here’s how to watch the Padres play when they are in Petco Park.
Go to Altitude Sky Lounge. That’s the bar on the rooftop of the Gaslamp Marriott. From its railing, you can get a nice view into the stadium. It’s all outdoor, 22 floors above ground and you can peer inside Petco from this perch.
Tip: bring binoculars. Otherwise, you can’t see many details of what’s happening on the field.
Altitude Sky Lounge is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays starting at 5 p.m. Its Happy Hour is 5-7 and features $5 domestic drafts and $7 premium well cocktails.
Its address is 660 K Street.
Another bar to get close to the action, tho you really can’t really see any action, it Fairweather, which has a long, kind of narrow outdoor bar that is right next to Petco. In fact, you enter it next to the J Street gate. From there, you go inside the brewery on the bottom level, go to the back, up a stairwell and onto the patio.
The view is directly over the grassy area directly behind center field, where normally during games is a play area with food and beer booths and sometimes even a band on a stage. Still, with no band playing and no crowd noise, you can hear the crack of the bats.
It’s address is 739 J. Street.
A third option is to have a friend in a skyrise apartment or condo – some look straight down into Petco – and go to his or her place for the games.
Otherwise, you’ll have to watch the Padres on TV and with no fans in the stands, the game is very quiet and seems even slower than the slow-paced game of baseball.
