Here’s something different to do in San Diego: take a full moon bike ride on a mountain bike trail.
It’s Trailblazers After Hours, a monthly full moon nighttime riding event at Luiseño Bike Park at La Jolla Indian Adventure Park. You ride the park’s terrain under the glow of a full moon then gather around a bonfire to bond with your fellow riders. You can then camp overnight if you like and go zip lining the next day on the Zip Zoom Ziplines, or do that earlier before riding the bike trail.
The full moon bike ride 2025 dates are:March 15, April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, September 6, and October 4. The price is $29 or you if you’re already there on a day pass ($49) you can add the night ride for an additional $19.
Schedule:
• 6 p.m. – Check-in
• 6:30 p.m. – First shuttle departure to trail head
• 7:30 p.m. – Second shuttle departure
• 8:30-10:00 p.m.– Bonfire
While the full moon provides a picturesque glow, additional illumination is required so riders must bring their own lights. Spots are limited.
“There’s something absolutely surreal about riding under the full moon—it transforms the trails into an entirely new experience,” says Steve Ford, Manager of Luiseño Bike Park. “These rides are equal parts thrilling, awe-inspiring, and pure fun, giving riders a chance to see the park in a whole new light – literally. Whether you’re here for the adventure, the community, or just a memorable night out, these events deliver something special you won’t find anywhere else.”
The night ride consists of two laps and takes 15-40 minutes to decend, depending on one’s still level. The shuttle ride is 25 minutes to the top, so the total ride time is approximately 1 1/2-2 hours. Intermediate and above ride level is recommended, but beginners are welcome, as well.
Located in south-facing foothills of Palomar Mountain, Luiseño Bike Park sits on land owned by the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians, who have lived in the region for thousands of years. The park offers an expansive network of trails for all skill levels. In addition to world-class biking, there is the Zip Zoom Ziplines, the family-friendly Sengme Oaks Water Park, La Jolla Indian Campground with RV and tent camping, the 76 Roadside Grill restaurant (breakfast and lunch only) and the La Jolla Trading Post Convenience Store.
The bike park’s website has tickets and more details. It is located at 803 Campground Rd, Pauma Valley, CA.
