In some cases, it’s a celebration and a party while in others, these bars provide perfect places for fans to drown their sorrows.
Florida Gators San Diego Bar – Smoking Gun, Gaslamp Quarter
When the season began it appeared as if the Gators alumni would be chomping at least up until the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party game with Georgia on Halloween weekend. An opening-day upset of Utah seemed to provide promise under new coach Billy Napier. But a loss to Kentucky the next week took a bite out of the fans’ optimism.
Still, the San Diego UF alumni go to The Smoking Gun on Saturdays where they enjoy beers, drinks and chomp down on Fried Pickles, Pretzel Balls, Loaded Thick Chips, Smoking Gun Mac and Cheese, Smoking Wings and the Funnel Cookie, a giant deep fried chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream and berry coulis.
Nebraska Cornhuskers San Diego Bar – Duck Dive, Pacific Beach
It has often been said by opposing teams who visit Lincoln that Nebraska has the nicest fans in all of college football. They are certainly the most patient and go to the Duck Dive to watch their Huskers – as painful as it is these days – and drown their sorrows for yet another year.
But they sure eat and drink well, for Duck Dive has $5 beers, bottomless mimosas, huge group drinks (one is served in a clam shell) and great breakfasts. Anything with the potatoes helps take their minds of what’s happening to their team.
Baltimore Ravens San Diego Bar – Dirty Birds, Pacific Beach
Dirty Birds has been endorsed by a lineup of pro football players-turned-loyal-patrons whose signed jerseys are featured on “The Dirty Wall of Fame” in the PB location. True to its name, Dirty Birds is known for its wings and the Dirty Birds Sauces, available for in the bar/restaurant as well as on its website.
Las Vegas Raiders San Diego Bar – Sandbar, Mission Beach
Sandbar Sports Grill just north of Mission Bay Park has ocean views from its Skydeck and Raiders fans sure enjoy the Big Ass Bloody Mary.
General San Diego Sports Bars
Here’s other San Diego sports bars that have fans from several college and NFL teams.
In the Gaslamp, barleymash is full of TVs, has dozens of really cold beers on tap, several top-shelf bourbons (handy for when your team blows a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter), a $25 bottle of champagne with breakfast, and really good food. A top choice is the Oven Roasted Beer-Brined Chicken Wings (sauces are whiskey-buffalo, mango-mojito chili and bourbon BBQ). This season, barleymash is offering prizes every week including Ray Bans, gift cards and electronics. Check in for at least 10 weeks and you’ll be entered to win an Oculus VR Headset or Apple MacBook Air.
Miss B’s Coconut Club in Mission Beach is loaded up on game-day specials that include $5 beers, $7 palomas and $15 bottles of Campo Viejo. Miss B’s serves $10 Jerk Wings on Thursdays and $10 Caribbean-style Nachos for the Monday Night Football games.
Park 101 in Carlsbad has TVs at the bar in the Garden Pub with park-bench style tables and chairs around fire pits. The Tamarack View Deck has a rotating selection of 32 local beers on tap and food includes snacks like the Loaded Baked Potato with ancho crema, smoked cheddar, bacon bits, chives and pulled pork.
