In a move that’s been a while in the making Tower 12 – a beach bungalow- style restaurant and bar in Hermosa Beach and home to PubClub LIVE! – is expanding to San Diego.
Specifically, it will be in Pacific Beach, which is kind of the Hermosa Beach of San Diego. So it will be right at home. It will be taking over the Fatfish Cantina Grill. A name has not been decided yet; in Hermosa it’s called Tower 12 because it’s on Pier Plaza, which is basically 12th Street, half a block from the pier with his lifeguard headquarters and the sand.
Tower 12 is one of the spinoff bars and restaurants from the creators of Sharkeez. Proprietor Greg Newman and top associate Jordan Cressman have been eyeing a spot in PB for many years. They had their eye on the vacant Denny’s restaurant but that is being taken over by another restaurant group.

The decor and atmosphere of Tower 12 is that of a cozy living room and couches in the back with a bar area in the front complete with a surfboard (a longboard, mind you) serving as one of the tables. PubClub LIVE takes place on one of the balconies overlooking Pier Plaza.
And while it’s intended to be a place to relax with a couple dozen beers on tap and well-made cocktails with great food, make no mistake that this is a nightlife hotspot, too. There’s a line out the door some 20-deep on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with its Thursday night karaoke being a huge hit with locals.
Before making too many plans, Newman and Cressman are getting to know San Diego and PB. After all, they just don’t open the doors to a place with little regard to the neighborhood. They want to be a part of that neighborhood.
Expect it to open sometime summer or fall in 2012.
