There’s a quick way for a new restaurant and bar to gain attention, even in crowded San Diego and even when it’s located in the youthful Pacific Beach neighborhood. Even if the name of it is Slowly.
The Slowly Restaurant & Lounge is doing this with some creative weekday promotions. After all, any place can have great food and/or drinks but you’ve got to get people in there to try and experience it in the first place.
Slowly has Martini v. Mocktail Mondays, Industry Nights on Wednesdays, Aperitivo on Thursdays with an incredible complimentary buffet to go with your drinks and a very creative Date Night whenever one, well, has as a date. Add to that its Happy Hour – er, social hour – weekdays from 4-6 p.m., and there’s several reasons to hurry over to Slowly.
All this comes with a Mediterranean, kick-back-and-stay-a-while setting (thus the name, Slowly) from owners Leo and Christine Landini. The names are familiar to San Diego foodies, for they also own Landini’s Pizzeria, Scuderie Italia and Ristorante Illando.
“In the Mediterranean,” Leo Landini said, “meals are more than just food, they’re an experience shared with loved ones. At Slowly we’re capturing that same spirit, where every bite and sip is savored, not just for the flavor, but for the memories made with the company around you.”
Martini v. Mocktail Mondays

Even Garfield wouldn’t hate Mondays with this special: $9 martinis from 4-10. Martinis include the Calming Cucumber Mint, a refreshing blend of vodka, mint, cucumber and fresh lime juice; the classic Espresso Martini with vodka, Kahlua, espresso and simple syrup; the Cosmopolitan, made with vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice and fresh lime juice; the Lazy Lemon Drop, a sweet-tart mix of vodka, Cointreau, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and a sugared rim; and the Pumpkin Spice Martini combining vanilla vodka, pumpkin liqueur and Baileys Irish Cream.
For those who have an early-morning meeting on Tuesdays, mocktails are $7.
Slowly Industry Nights
Those in the service industry get half-priced drinks and $5 appetizers. PLUS, 20% off everything the rest of the week (tho not during other specials like Social Hour). To qualify, show proof of your service industry employment at the bar to get an Industry VIP card.
Slowly Aperitivo Thursdays

This might be the most desirable of all nights. It’s certainly the most tempting. From 4-7 there’s a full-on buffet featuring the likes of charcuterie cups, assorted empanadas, flatbreads, sliders and salads put out to munch on for free. The exotic cocktail menu has on it the Whispering Ember’s Old-Fashione made with Bulleit Rye Whiskey, simple syrup, cherry bitters, angostura bitters and Luxardo cherry, smoked tableside ($19); the Bonfire Espresso Martini with espresso, vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, marshmallow syrup and torched tableside ($17); the Mellow Mango Margarita made with tequila, mango puree, fresh lime, agave and a smoked paprika rim ($16), among others.
Aperitivo, by the way, is an Italian word meaning “to open” and is a cultural ritual that involves light food, drinks and socializing.
Slowly Social (Happy) Hour

Weekdays from 4-6, Social has beers, wines, sangria (both red and white) and sprits for $6; classic cocktails and flights of beer, wine & mimosas for $10 and its speciality cocktails for $14. Food is $13-16 and while that may seem high for Happy Hour it’s not basic stuff but includes beef skewers, tuna and black mussels and clams. You can also get half a dozen oysters and champagne for $29.
Slowly Date Nights
This is a special three-course menu for people on a date. It has two appetizers and four entrees and two dessert choices for $99 and includes a round of drinks. Plus, you can get a bottle of good champagne for $29. Menu items include a charcuterie board, a chicken dinner, salmon risotto and gelato or creme brulee for dessert.
