
San Diego, unlike Paris, is not known as a romantic city.
But being on an ocean and with far better weather than the City of Lights, there are several romantic things to do in what the local tourism board touts as being America’s Finest City. For couples seeking romance on Valentine’s Day in San Diego there is an activity that is famous in a European city other than Paris: Venice. And that is taking a gondola ride.
The Gondola Company in Coronado has a Saint Valentino Cruise. that goes through the serene canals of the Coronado Cays at sunset, rowed by a gondolier. The gondola ride is 50 minutes and includes a heart-shaped box of gourmet chocolates from See’s Candies and a red rose with wines, and chocolate truffles are available for purchase.
The price is $250 on Valentine’s Day, $225 on Valentine’s Eve and $260 on the day after Valentine’s Day. Add-ons include a boquet of roses, a mandolin player and a singer, each at $100.
For those who want to make their Valentine’s Day a a wedding proposal there is a Valentino Proposal Package for $850 that includes a bottle of Italian Prosecco, souvenir champagne flutes, a heart-shaped box of gourmet chocolates from See’s Candies and bouquet of one dozen red roses and a professional photographer.The photographer will edit and upload 15 photos which you will be able to download from a website. This ride must be booked by Feb 10th for bouquet to be included.
The trip goes through the Coronado Cays on San Diego Bay, along multi-million dollar homes. This is along the Silver Strand just south of the Lowe’s Coronado Beach Resort.
A few other romantic things to do in San Diego for Valentine’s Day are, of course, a walk along the beach at sunset or enjoying a special moment at Sunset Cliffs.
