The Beach Boys & Crowded House To Play Embarcadero Venue In 2020

There’s going to be a lot of “Good Vibrations” coming out of the new summer home of the San Diego Symphony. The Beach Boys are having a concert on July 13, one of the first events in the permanent outdoor venue, which is at the Embarcadero South at San Diego Bay.
And while that will certainly be “Fun, Fun, Fun,” later in the year Crowded House will help crowd the area with another concert.
Called The Shell (same name as the outdoor venue in Waikiki Beach, by the way), this permanent facility is more than a classical music venue. It will also be hosting other types of music, including the aforementioned concerts as well as more of them (keep reading for dates and details).
The San Diego Symphony has held its summer season in this location but unlike it’s predecessor at the same location, the Shell is a permanent facility. It’s also bigger with an expanding capacity of up to 10,000 people. Previously, capacity was 4,000. Seating is on a sloped terrace. There will be tables just in front of the stage for VIPs.
To top off the evening and the experience, there will be fireworks show after several of the concerts.
Here’s the non-symphony concerts and dates:
• July 13 – The Beach Boys
• July 28 – Gladys Knight With Josh Stone
• Aug. 1 – Smokey Robinson
• Aug. 13 – Brian Newman
• Sept. 10 – Bobby McFerrin
• Sept. 12 – Crowded House
• Sept. 28 – Aida Cuevas with Mariachi Juvenil Tecalitlan and Mariachi Los Camperos
• Oct. 1 – Pat Metheny Side-Eye featuirng James Francies and Marcus Gilmore.
All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. Gates will open at 5:30.
Singles tickets go on sale May 17 with prices ranging from $20-200. There are also packages for Fridays and Saturdays and three to four concerts.
Tickets are available by calling the symphony box office at (619) 235-0804 or on-line at: sandiegoshell.com.
