One way to start 2024 off in style is to be at the plush Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. The legendary property, where Marilyn Monroe frolicked in Some Like It Hot and where other top celebrities have often stayed, is having a brunch on New Year’s Day.
At it, you can get a 32-ounce pitcher of Bloody Marys for the Del-ish price of $125. Then again, it does serve four people and contans top-shelf vodka and shellfish. Called the Ultimate Bloody Mary, it is made with Belvedere vodka and garnished with freshly caught crab and oysters.
And it just happens to be National Bloody Mary Day. Yes, there is such a thing.
The Bloody Mary is available at the Del’s Serẽa Coastal Cuisine, which also is serving brunch.
Normally reserved for Saturday and Sunday, Serẽa’s brunch menu includes dishes such as a locally sourced whole fish, freshly caught and grilled over open fire with olive oil, lemon, red wine vinegar and sea salt or flash fried with tomato bagna conserva, peppadew peppers and fresh lemon; shrimp and smoked polenta with poached eggs, grilled shrimp, market cherry tomatoes, peppadew peppers and bagna càuda priced at $26; and big eye tuna crudo with Kalamata olive aioli, crispy fennel and onions and caper preserved lemon salsa, priced at $25.
For those who prefer cocktails other than a Bloody Mary, there is the Seascape with Grey Goose Essences Strawberry + Lemongrass, lemon, sugar and sparkling wine; the Daybreak, crafted with Casamigos Reposado tequila, Cointreau, rosé, guava, citrus and mixed berries; or a selection of craft cocktails, beers and wines. Guests practicing Dry January can enjoy refreshing, non-alcoholic mocktails such as a kiwi mojito or hibiscus mai tai.
Serẽa Coastal Cuisine is open on New Year’s Day, 10:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. To make reservations for Serẽa’s New Year’s Day seaside brunch or to look at the full menu, go to SereaSanDiego.com, Facebook or Instagram.
