Fisherman’s Wharf Attraction Selling Tickets For Summertime Pop-Up Promotion

This pop-up place on Fisherman’s Wharf features coffee at bistro-style tables, nicely draped with red and white gingham tablecloths… all while being surrounded by live rats.
Er, yeah.
It’s a limited summer-time promotion that’s part of The San Francisco Dungeon attraction. You pay then $29.99 to enter, sit and have coffee and then go into the interactive museum.
The Rate Cafe’s lobby is reminiscent of the Barbary Coast and yes, features rats. After you finish your cup of coffee – which for PubClub.com would be really fast – you go down into the dungeon, a 60-minute, live-action journey through 200 years’ worth of the Bay Area’s riveting and sinister history.
It begins with a descent in a rickety mine-shaft elevator to a dark place where actors, storytelling, and special effects combine to offer up interpretations of the city’s deepest, darkest historical moments. All with a humorous touch, it must be added.
From the Gold Rush to the Chinatown Plague (where more rats await!) to Alcatraz, people interact with 10 distinct shows inspired by actual events from the city’s history. As you pass from one show to the next, actors transform into various shady characters such as Sam Roberts, the leader of the Gangs of San Francisco or infamous bar owner and crimper Miss Piggott and her partner-in-crime, Shanghai Kelly.
“We want to offer a frighteningly funny encounter with creepy-crawly critters you could only find at The San Francisco Dungeon,” says Matthew Clarkson, regional head of marketing for West Coast Midway Attractions, North America, Merlin Entertainments Group (parent company of The San Francisco Dungeon). “Drinking coffee while a rat is running around your feet? That’s not for the faint of heart.”
Guests can register here to be the first to be alerted when tickets officially go on sale.
