Songs Sparks Fond Memories Of Fun Bars And The Conch Republic Mindset
Give me oysters and beer every day of the year.
Now that’s a good thought!
Hearing Jimmy Buffett sing these lyrics in his song Tin Cup Chalice brings back memories of Key West, FL. And oh, what memories!
One could sustain quite a fine lifestyle hanging out in Key West, consuming pretty much oysters and beer every day of the year.
The Schooner Wharf Bar is a great the place to do it, too, a place made of wood right on the water. Life could pass one by quite easily while sitting here having those oysters and beers. And conch fritters, too.
Keys Disease can be very contagious here.
But, of course, in Key West one does not live on a single establishment alone, for there are many fine watering holes in the Conch Republic. I must also get out the heat at Captain Tony’s Saloon, where a legend indeed never dies. And Buffett’s photo from his Key West days is on the wall next to Captain Tony himself.
Spend time in Sloppy Joe’s. Maybe Jimmy has snuck into town and will play at Margaritaville Cafe.
And with booze in my internal blender, there’s the wilder spots at night, Rick’s and the always lively Kevin’s Irish Bar.
Plus, the nightly ritual known as sunset at Mallory Square.
Ahh, as I write this blog, I am not Havana Daydreamin’ but dreamin’ of that next trip to Key West, while also reliving great memories of past trips to the Conch Republic.
