Event A Huge Boost To The Conch Republic Economy After Cancelation Of Fantasy Fest
Posted: Oct. 27, 2020
More than 50 tropical rock – known in the industry under the genre TropRock – musicians are in Key West, FL, the end of October through the first of November for a major music festival.
The artists are playing at various venues and bars all around the Conch Republic in an event called TropRock Strong that goes through Sunday, Nov. 1.
It is a huge boost to the economy, bars and hospitality workers in the area, who lost a lot of business from the cancellation of several events due to COVID-19, including the massive Fantasy Fest Halloween-style multi-day party, which typically would be going on right now.
TropRock strong is not an officially-sanctioned event by Key West. Instead it is led by Kristin McFadden, the originator of the Trop Rock Strong motto, along with the musicians and heavily promoted by TropRock radio stations such as RadioTropRock.com.
Many of the performances are free, tho some are ticketed events. Masks are required to enter a bar, restaurant or venue but may be taken off while seated. The event’s full schedule is available on the TropRock Strong website.
Music is a huge part of the cultural fabric of Key West, as nearly every bar features a live musician. Some of them came to the Conch Republic years ago on vacation and never left because they love the lifestyle and picked up gigs in local bars. This helped create the term “Keys Disease,” which certainly is not the same thing as the coronavirus.
PubClub.com, in conjunction with MenWhoBlog.com, previewed TropRock Strong with a special livestream show earlier in October that featured up-and-coming star performer Isabella Stefania as well as the King Of TropRock Eric Stone, who has also just written a book based on the TropRock lifestyle. Tune in here to hear their music and watch the full show.
Other guests included Key West DJ and promoter Chakka Chandler as well as “Sky Chick” Ramona Cox, who has traded in her private plane for a camper and is now camping out in Key West.
TropRock music is best defined as Jimmy Buffett-type of music, tho not necessarily played by Buffett.
