Thunderstorms Forecast For Weekend But It Won’t Wash Out The Party

Key West can’t get a break from Mother Nature.
First, Hurricane Irma blasted through the Keys, which essentially shut down Key West for the better part of six weeks in September thru mid-October.
And now that tens of thousands of people are partying in the Conch Republic for Fantasy Fest, it is likely going be raining on the event’s biggest event, the parade down Duval Street.
Not just raining, either, for the weather forecast calls for thunderstorms to hit Key West on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The chance of rain is listed as 100%, starting in the morning and lasting into the night. And even into all day Sunday. The long-range forecast calls for cloudy skies, rain and thunderstorms thru at least Tuesday, Nov. 7.
There were thunderstorms on Tuesday and the rest of the week is cloudy.
But hey, it’s Key West and Fantasy Fest. The party continues regardless of the weather. Many of the week-long events at FantasyFest are inside at Key West bars and get a load of some of ’em: a Party In Plaid at Captain Tony’s Saloon, a Green Party at the Green Parrot, a Red Party at Fogarty’s, a Redneck Party at Gas Monkey Garage, the Smokin’ Tuna Homemade Bikini Contest at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon and a Sexy Bull Riding Contest at Cowboy Bills.
All of these events lead up to the parade – some rain or (moon) shine – on Saturday, down Duval Street. The parade is known for floats and people wearing incredible and outlandish costumes. It’s free to attend, tho if you can pay to be on a balcony overlooking the parade.
It starts at 7 p.m. And it ends, well, the memories last forever.
Even in the rain.
