NOLA Is A Unique USA Destination Where The Good Times Roll
By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com Travel Blogger
Laissez les bons temps rouler.
Let the good time roll.
That’s the way I roll when I’m in New Orleans and you should, too.
And how can you not? New Orleans is unlike any other city in America. Instead of having signature landmarks – such as the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hollywood sign – is has signature food items (gumbo, po-boys, muffalettas, etouffee and crawfish).
It has the French Quarter, a wonderful area for walking, with its beads and souvenir shops and t-shirts with funny sayings on them, restaurants every few feet and, of course Bourbon Street.
There’s always a gumbo mix of locals and tourists and you’re never at a loss to meet other fun people. There are few places anywhere where it’s so easy to start up a conversation with a simple “hello.”
You can get “drinks to go;” just walk up to a counter, bar or restaurant and get a drink or beer in a plastic cup or can and continue walking through the Quarter.
All this is wrapped up in an attitude of locals that says “let the good times roll” without them having to say it.
When I returned to my hotel one trip to take an air conditioning break from a steamy afternoon, I mentioned to the person behind the check-in counter that “man, it’s hot out there!” She simply held up a plastic cup with some type of adult beverage in it and said, with that New Orleans smile, “you just need a liquid cool-down!”
Can’t find that anywhere else in America.
It’s things like this that always have me walking around with a smile in New Orleans. I have a bounce in my step. Yes, I have that laissez les bons temps rouler attitude.
Because the good times really do roll in New Orleans.
Cheers!
