It’s Not Vegas But Adventures In The Great Smoky Mountains Make It A Good Place To Bond With the Bride
Pass on Sin City and go to instead in Dolly Parton’s hometown?
Well guess what, it’s happening. Sevierville, TN, pressed up against the Great Smoky Mountains an hour from Knoxville, has become a trendy destination for bachlorettes. In fact. last year Sevierville hosted a national contest called the Great Girlfriends’ Getaway. And to take advantage of the notoriety of it, the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce has introduced vacation packages for bachelorettes.
Now to be sure, Sevierville is not Las Vegas. If anyone should know it’s me; I live in Southern California and have been to Vegas countless times. I’m also from East Tennessee and have been through Sevierville often enough on the way to the Smokies and Gatlinburg to know about it, as well. I’ve even been to Dollywood (yes, there is such a thing. It’s a small amusement and entertainment park and it’s pretty cool, actually).
But I’ve never stopped for a beer in Sevierville; never even considered it, in fact. So it’s not a whoop-it-up all-night clubbing bachlorette party destination.
What it is, is a place full of scenic adventures in a beautiful area of the country. Here are some of those adventures:
• Different Point of View – helicopter tour, safari, photography class
• High Flying Adventure – ziplining, helicopter tour, Lumberjack Feud show
• Beat the Heat – whitewater rafting, river tubing
• Back to Nature – Ripley’s Aquarium, photography class, safari
• Be a Kid Again – NASCAR Speedpark, minor league baseball game, WonderWorks
• Shopping Safari – Cirque De Chine show, personal makeover/shopping, safari
• Laughter is the Best Medicine – Comedy Barn Theater, miniature golf
If you like sports, you can take in a Knoxville Smokies game at a beautiful minor league baseball stadium in Sevierville. The Smokes are the Chicago Cubs AA affiliate. Or make your way to Gatlinburg where you can go not to a wine tasting room but to a moonshine tasting room from Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine (don’t worry, it’s legal. And hey, can’t do that in Vegas!).
Packages, which come with lodging in Sevierville, include everything from photography classes to whitewater rafting to shopping and even complete makeovers.
More detailed information on these packages can be found at www.officialgirlfriendsgetaway.com.
Along with the introduction of these girlfriends’ getaway packages, the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce is also releasing a series of webisodes featuring last year’s Great Girlfriends’ Getaway contest winners and the experience and the activities they shared during their trip. These webisodes will be released every week on Sevierville’s Facebook page.
So no, it’s not Vegas. But it’s a very nice place to bond with the bride. And isn’t that the whole point of bachelorette parties in the first place?
