California, Florida, Hawaii, College Football Tailgate Parties & Halloween Are Fun Destinations
October is Rocktober month in the USA, and here’s the best vacation spots in the country based on events, weather and other factors of fun.
#1.) Best October USA Destinations: California
The weather makes California the ideal spot to spend vacation time in the USA. The temperatures are mild – mostly in the low 70s in the daytime – and there’s an Endless Summer-style of endless activities. These include theme parks, going to the beaches (it’s plenty warm to get a suntan) to wine tasting to well, pretty much anything you desire to do on a vacation. Tip: Stay along the coast so you can soak in those incredible nightly sunsets.
#2.) Best October USA Destinations: Hawaii
The weather is also great in Hawaii and in October you’ll be hanging out with more locals than fellow tourists, at least in the main places like Waikiki Beach. If you’re on Maui, Lahina has a great block party for Halloween.
#3.) Best October USA Destinations: Florida
Speaking of states with beaches, this is a great time to visit Florida. The weather is cooling off yet it’s still warm enough to wear bathing suits and go into the ocean. Plus, if you’re looking for fun events, Fantasy Fest is in Key West.
#4.) Best October USA Destinations: Las Vegas
Tons of shows, concerts, the never-ending buzz of The Strip, dynamic nightlife and some incredible deals if you time it right make Las Vegas a very fun fall destination. Tip: The temperatures drop dramatically when the sun does down so pack long pants and have a jacket with you.
#5.) Best October USA Destinations: New Orleans
You can never go wrong with being in the Big Easy.
#6.) Best October USA Destinations: College Campuses For College Football
For a true taste of America in the fall, head to a college campus for a football game. This does not have to be a major school on a big rivalry weekend because it happens on every big and small school in America. The tailgate parties are a great way to meet and bond with friendly students and alumni. There’s nothing like this anywhere else in the world.
Here are some key dates and places:
• Oct. 14 – Auburn at LSU. Those crazy Cajuns start with “kegs & eggs.” Hopefully, it’s a night game. Also, Purdue is at Wisconsin; the hosts will win big and Madison is a great scene.
• Oct. 21 – Tennessee at Alabama “The Third Saturday Of October.” Location: Tuscaloosa, AL. Also, LSU at Ole Miss at “The Grove,” the best tailgate party in America. Location: Oxford MS. Also, Illinois at Wisconsin
• Oct. 28 – Arkansas at Ole Miss and Penn State at Ohio State. Try and get into the stadium, if nothing else to witness the “dotting of the ‘i’ in the band’s script Ohio before the game.
#7.) Best October USA Destinations: NFL Games
Like colleges, NFL games are fun places to spend time in October. Unlike colleges, these games take place in major U.S. cities, so it’s really like two vacations in one. Top places for tailgating are: NY Giants games in NYC, Kansas City for the Chiefs (considered the best in the league) and Oakland for the Raiders (the fans may look scary but are actually quite friendly).
#8.) Best October USA Destinations: Top Halloween Party Places
Salem, MA, is a great place for Halloween but so are these other locations. The 300,000 block party in Los Angeles called Carnaval is NOT to be missed, for several reasons.
#9.) Best October USA Destinations: World Series Cities
The Fall Classic is a piece of Americana and even if you don’t want to pay $2,000 or whatever to go to a baseball game, being in a city with one of the teams can provide memories you’ll not forget for a while. Head down to the ballpark three or four hours before a game, soak up the atmosphere and then watch the game from one of the bars by the stadium. The 2017 World Series dates are Oc.t 24-Nov. 1.
#10.) Best October USA Destinations: World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party
This is the Georgia-Florida college football game in Jacksonville, FL.. It takes place on Saturday, Oct. 28, and has this nickname for a reason. BYOB for the tailgate party and if you don’t go to the game then party at The Landing.

Great list of places to visit. I love visiting Las Vegas in the fall, during the summer it is to hot to really enjoy the city. I think a new England road trip would be an awesome fall vacation, add in some college football games and my husband would love it!
