Kegs And Not Eggs In These South Bay Bars By The Beach

The 2013 El Segundo Keg Hunt rolled through this Los Angeles town by the beach and once again, it proved to be one heck of a great time on the Saturday before Easter.
Who comes up with such things? I’m jealous!
Well, not really, because I was there and what a great time. In fact, it’s a blast! If you can’t go to Spring Break, then you should go to the El Segundo Keg Hunt. It’s that good.
So here’s the El Segundo Keg Hunt in a nutshell: Organize a team of four people, dress in a creative costume, meet in the parking lot of Tavern on Main and load up on Bud Lights until you get your drinking, er, marching, orders.
Then go to the bars and play games to get clues to find kegs. If you find a keg, great! If you don’t, then keep drinking in the bars. Talk about a win, win situation.
My personal favorite bars during the Keg Hunt are the Purple Orchid and The Office.

The Orchid is a tiki bar and those are too rare in Los Angeles. It has all the tiki elements but for this event, it’s beer first. I was hanging out with the Budweiser Bunnies and bought them a round of Bud Lights when suddenly they bolted.
“We got a clue – we found a keg!”
That was their last words and out the door they raced, leaving me to finish their four Bud Lights. Not a problem. In fact, it was a pleasure.
They did not find an keg but later I ran into them at The Standard. They did not seem terribly disappointed.
Such is the Keg Hunt.

About The Office, this is a dive bar of all dive bars in a town with a dozen of them. For the Keg Hunt The Office – in the parking lot by the Rite Aid – just rocks. In ’13, Team Magnum was in there, and wherever these Smackfest and 6-man people roll, it’s a great time. A party team dressed at the LA Kings skated in, proudly holding up a keg they found.
The funniest part about the Keg Hunt is that there are about 600 people who enthusiastically start out at the Tavern on Main’s back parking lot. For an hour plus, it’s the prime party.
The teams are supposed to report back at the end of the event for a post-event party, but only half make it because the other people throw in the towel and keep partying at the bars.
And that’s why I love it so much.
Cheers!
