Popular Bars & Big Events Bring In The LA’s Hot Singles
First of all, it’s Brazil. Second of all, the country is hosting the World Cup. That’s one heck of a combination to begin with, and then throw in the passion for soccer of Brazilians and just says party!
But if you can’t be in Brazil and want to be in a good party place, a second choice would be Hermosa Beach, one of the South Bay Beach Cities of Los Angeles.
For it is in Hermosa Beach where thousands gather at pier area to pack the bars – and I mean pack; if you’re not there a half-hour before game time, good luck getting into a place – and, when the LA Galxay put a big screen on Pier Plaza, thousands more come to the city. For the USA-Germany game, Hermosa Beach was the focal point of Los Angeles as every TV station in town did live shots and it was featured on ESPN and Fox’s national sports shows.
But that’s only the foam in the beer glass. Leading into the World Cup, Hermosa Beach was hockey city in the USA. It’s the home of the entire Los Angeles Kings hockey team and when it won the Stanley Cup there was a parade held right along the beach.
Some 10,000 people turned out for it (my estimate, counting the entire parade), lining the sand on The Strand (the parade also went through neighboring Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach).
And then there’s the 4th of July. One would be hard pressed to find a bigger party place in America for Independence Day, at least for single people. The Strand is elbow-to-elbow, as crowded as the Underground Pub is for USA’s World Cup games. Nearly every house on The Strand has a party and there are bands playing all along the beach and at places on the side streets.
And then the FOLLOWING week, it’s Smackfest, a dress-up, co-ed beach volleyball tournament that is one of the top singles events of the summer in the entire South Bay.
