The Indianapolis 500 is one of America’s biggest sporting events, a Memorial Day Weekend tradition and a top race in all of motorsports. It’s also part of the identity of the state of Indiana and the entire Midwestern part of the U.S.
But people outside of it may not know that there is also a massive infield party in addition to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES cars on the track. It’s called the Snake Pit and it’s like the Kentucky Derby infield, in that the people there likely don’t see any wheels of the cars turn and don’t have any idea who won the race.
And that’s okay, because they have enough entertainment happening there anyway, with a water slide, bands and DJs pumping music. Here is a look at the scene inside the Indy 500 Snake Pit through photos from PubClub.com photographer Jack Fleming.
