Chilling on New Year’s Eve is one thing but being chilled is another. Some top New Year’s Eve destinations, New York City chief among them, can be downright cold for their big NYE celebrations.

So if you want to go where it’s warm, where you can put your toes between the sand, have some white stuff on your nose and dress in shorts and t-shirts instead of heavy coats, then head to these top New Year’s Eve destinations around the world.

1.) Sydney. It’s summer down Down Under and the first place in the world to have a huge New Year’s Eve celebration welcomes people with the warmth of the friendly Australians. The place to by the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge for its massive fireworks celebration.

2.) Rio. New Year’s Eve is also summertime in Brazil and the place to be in this lively country is Copacabana Beach in Rio. Hundreds of thousands of people go to the beach, get in the water and watch fireworks go to the bars. And, if you decide you like it down there, hang around thru Carnival season.

3.) Key West, FL The Conch Republic is warm and hot with its party scene on Duval Street. This quirky outpost at the Southernmost point in the U.S., even has a wench drop and a high heel drop. Plus all the fun bars like Sloppy Joe’s and Captain Tony’s Saloon. Be sure and watch the nightly sunsets at Mallory Square. For more, read this boots-on-the-ground guide on how to spend New Year’s Eve in Key West.

There’s a big pool party for New Year’s Eve in Waikiki Beach.

4.) Waikiki Beach, Hawaii. There are fireworks on the beach and also a big-time poolside New Year’s Eve party in a place where you can have on a swimsuit  and flip flops. With a lei around your neck.

5.) Goa, India. For an all-out beach party scene, then go to Goa. A kind of party backpackers haven, New Year’s Eve in Goa has parties everywhere and it starts before NYE with the Sunburn Festival which is held between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

New Year's Eve Foxy's Virgin Islands
New Year’s Eve is one of the best times of the year IF you know where to party.

6.) British Virgin Islands. In the BVIs for New Year’s Eve, you probably won’t be wearing anything other than a swimsuit and sandals. It’s 80-plus degrees and humid. THE place for NYE is Foxy’s New Year’s Eve partyOld New Year’s Night Foxy’s Bar New Year’s Eve Ultimate Party Review on Jost Van Dyke.  On New Year’s Day you may even find Kenny Cheney sitting toes in the water and ass in the sand drinking Pain Killers at the Soggy Dollar Bar.

7.) San Diego. This paradise in Southern California has it all – warm weather, beaches, a college football game in the Gaslamp Quarter (the Holiday Bowl), beaches and awesome parties like this mega San Diego NYE bash. There are no fireworks over San Diego Bay but with that party and lively bars all over the city, there are plenty of fireworks being around the friendly people.

8.) Miami

There’s South Beach, yes, but the place to be is a park near a marina for the fireworks show. Afterward, walk around the marina and join the party at one of the bars or, if you’re lucky, perhaps you’ll be invited to join one on a boat at the dock. Miami for New Year’s Eve is warm and with the Orange Bowl there is also a bit of a college football atmosphere. I have a fond memory of spending New  New Year’s Eve in Miami as a kid being entertained by a well-lubricated person at the Orange Bowl parade.
