What’s The Weather For New Year’s Eve? Cold & Flurries In NYC And A Wet Rose Bowl Parade

From bone-chilling cold to an unusual rain storm, the weather for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day across the USA is as varied as the country. Here’s a look at AccuWeather’s forecast for major NYE party destinations across the USA, as well as what may be a very unusual Rose Bowl Parade and game.

New York City NYE Weather

Don’t forget your gloves, heavy coat and gloves. The ball drop celebration in Times Square will be its typical cold, possibly with some snow.

“People heading out to the ball drop or other outdoor celebrations should bundle up,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Elizabeth Danco said. “Flurries could be flying in Times Square before the ball drops,” Danco said. “The AccuWeather RealFeel Temperature before midnight will drop into the teens. Make sure you have a winter coat, hat, gloves and a scarf. Winds could gust around 15 mph.”

Still, it will be better than last year.

“It will feel roughly 20 to 30 degrees colder outside compared to last year, but at least everyone should stay much drier,” Danco said. “Showers and thunderstorms soaked revelers in New York City last year.”

A Rainy Rose Bowl

Across the country, the Rose Bowl Parade and football game will both likely be wet. AccuWeather expert meteorologists say a new storm will bring rain to California on New Year’s Eve, before expanding across much of the Southwest region on New Year’s Day.

“People heading out to the parade or bowl game in Pasadena should pack a rain jacket or poncho and wear boots or waterproof shoes,” Danco said.

For those wondering if it has ever rained during the Rose Bowl Parade it has, but it does not happen often. In fact, it has only occured 10 times in its 137-year history.  The 2026 Rose Bowl game, a College Football Playoff match between Alabama and #1 Indiana, could be played in the rain. The last significant time there was rain during the Rose Bowl game was 1955 which turned the field into mud. Ohio State beat USC in a downpour.

New Orleans & Las Vegas NYE Weather

For those going to two of PubClub.com’s Top Worldwide NYE Party Destinations – New Orleans and Las Vegas – the weather is as follows.

New Orleans: Clear and sunny NYE and New Year’s Day with a high of 55 and a low of  45 on New Year’s Day and 66 and 55 on New Year’s Day. The Sugar Bowl playoff game between Georgia and Ole Miss starts at 7 p.m.

Las Vegs: If you’re going to be on the Strip, prepare for rain. There is a 50% chance of rain (which, of course, means there’s a 50% chance it won’t rain!). Temps are 56/45. On New Year’s Day, don’t rush to get up early, for there’s an 80% chance of rain. Do a bottomless mimosas bunch and then head to a sports book or sports bar to watch the three College Football Playoff games.
