Academy Awards To Take Place April 25
The new date is April 25. It was originally scheduled for Feb. 28.
As a result, films have until Feb. 28 for submissions to the academy. The previous date was Dec. 31.
Academy President David Rubin and Chief Executive Dawn Hudson, issued a joint statement, stating “our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone’s control.”
The Governor’s Awards will not take place this fall tho in other awards news, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will be held virtually in and broadcast Sept. 20 on ABC.
With the Oscars pushing back its date, other awards shows that normally take place in January and February could follow the Academy’s lead and change their dates. Tho currently there has been no indication that will happen, at least not yet.
