Welcome to the PubClub.com South Bay Party Report! It’s the wet President’s Day Weekend edition!
The Party Report is brought to you by Kona Brewing, which brings you liquid aloha sunshine in bottles or on tap even in the rain!
YouTube Party Report: There’s no YouTube version this week but instead take a look at one of my growing number of “how-to” videos. This one is on how to pick a restaurant when you’re traveling solo for work or leisure. Note the awesome background!

It’s President’s Day Weekend and for years, this was an automatic road trip for a big group of us from the South Bay. We would load up the vehicles and head up to Mammoth! Had some great times up there and frankly, am not sure why we’re not doing it anymore. Some people have moved away and others have lost the desire to motivate and organize it.
Plus, it’s really expansive; a Mammoth single-day lift ticket is – am I reading this correctly from its website!? – $149! A two-day ticket is $268. Okay, let’s stay in the South Bay.
10 COOL THINGS TO DO IN LOS ANGELES WHEN IT’S RAINING
You don’t have to sit on your couch all weekend. You can get out, do things and actually see a lot of L.A. In fact, it’s one of the best times to do these things. I’ve put together this list of 10 really cool things to do in LA when it’s raining.

LA WEEKEND EVENTS & HAPPENINGS
There’s quite a bit happening all over Los Angeles this weekend. Here’s a rundown of the main events.
• Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show
People in Los Angeles love to travel and that’s especially true for us in the South Bay. And you can travel around the globe (mentally anyway) by going to the L.A. Convention Center for the Travel & Adventure Show. There’s displays and representatives from destinations all over the world, a ton of travel industry expert speakers – including the South Bay’s own Johnny Jet! – cooking demos, a rock-climbing wall, even a scuba diving pool.
PubClub will be there Saturday morning and will be posting a video report later on the PubClub YouTube channel. Speaking of that, I hope you’re subscribing to the PubClub YouTube channel; there’s a lot of cool videos on it! Travel show tickets are $15 or $22 for both days. Here’s a preview, including the complete lineup of speakers and times:

• Genesis L.A . Open PGA Tour At Riviera County Club
The tournament, formerly known as the Northern Trust Open, is this weekend. It may test the ‘ol golf adage that it never rains on a golf course, but the PGA pros – including Jordan Speith – are playing at Riviera Country Club.
Tiger Woods was initially scheduled to play but he pulled out with yet another injury. I’ve been to this event many times and as a result have several stories for your reading pleasure. Riviera, by the way, has some unique holes and a lot of really cool L.A .golf history.

• USC-UCLA Basketball Game At Pauley Pavilion
March Madness is approaching and it’s time to start paying attention to some college basketball so you can at least make a couple of semi-intelligent picks in your bracket. The two local tournament-bound teams play at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA has a prolific offense but very little defense. USC is a streak-shooting team that is going for a sweep of the series. The game is at 7 p.m., on the Pac-12 Network.
• Scots Festival At The Queen Mary

There’s also a Scottish Festival at the Queen Mary. There’s demonstrations of Scottish games, Scottish food (and don’t EVER tell me what’s in haggis; I had it at a press preview for this event a couple of years ago, thankfully quickly washed down by whiskey shots), and whiskey and craft beer tastings. Scottish bands are playing on Saturday.
Tickets are $19 and it’s important to note the event takes place on the lawn by the Queen Mary (outdoors) and does not include actually going onto the ship. The times are 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

HERMOSA BEACH ART SHOW
I went to an art show last Saturday evening in Hermosa Beach. I know, this is shocking! But I was promised there would be free wine and single women. Duh, right!? At first, as kids were running into my legs I was looking to bolt but then suddenly, things changed.
I met a beautiful Brazilian artist, the kids were replaced by about a dozen single girls and there was not just wine but beer and whiskey shots! I got a sudden idea to do an on-the-spot video and then a story on 5 tips for singles going to art shows. One is to go to these shows later rather than at the beginning. Here’s the full list, including the video.

#THENIGHTLIFECHAT IS THURSDAY, FEB. 23
The next PubClub.com Twitter chat, #TheNightlifeChat, is Thursday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. Since the Oscars are that Sunday we’ll be discussing Oscar parties, what you drink (Kona beer!?), the awards show and what post-party you would most like to attend. It’s free to join in and participants include travel industry/nightlife bloggers and pros from around the world. The last one had nearly 700,000 Twitter impressions!
THE PUBCLUB.COM PARTY REPORT FEATURED TRAVEL EVENT: PORTLAND BEER!
Since it’s raining, you might as well go to Portland, right? This weekend the breweries of Portland are hosting a coordinated open house. You can meet the founder of Widmer Brothers Brewing, Rob Widmer, drink in a former elementary school and take a “beer bus” from brewery to brewery. It’s called Zickelmania and here’s more about it.
