Fun Events & Things To Do In The PubClub World
Welcome to the PubClub.com Party Report! This is a rundown of fun and events happening in the PubClub world, with a primary focus on the Los Angeles Beach Cities.
This Party Report is for the opening weekend of Rocktober, featuring the Hometown Fair beer garden, Buccaneer Days and Oktoberfest celebrations.
Hometown Fair Beer Garden
For decades, this has been THE event in the Los Angeles South Bay Beach Cities. It’s basically a fence around a grassy area in a park as part of an arts & crafts festival. But when you serve BEER in this beer-thirsty community you’re just asking for fun! While it’s fallen off a bit in popularity a bit the past few years I have a feeling it will experience a huge resurgence this year because it was canceled last year due to COVID.
The beer garden is open Saturday and Sunday in Manhattan Beach’s Live Oak Park and a big tip is to buy your beer tickets before 3 because they quit selling at 4 and last call is at 5.
But hey, below is a link to everything you need to know about this fun, traditional fall event! It’s free, by the way.
If you are running the 10K in the morning – which I recommend, after all it’s good to get in a little exercise before you socialize, then the link below has all the details. This year for entering you get a $20 coupon to Fresh Bros. pizza.
Arggg!!! This was once a regular party stop for Team PubClub (before it cost a whopping $59!), a full pirates and wenches event on Two Harbors, Catalina Island. (Hey Rob, don’t take the ferry to Avalon, okay!) There is a special ferry from Catalina Express leaving San Pedro arriving at Noon and returning at 11 p.m. As the name implies, is an all-day affair on the beach and the deck of the Harbor Reef bar with all things pirate-related, including Navy Grogs, people in costumes and pirate music. The plural in the name means some go over a couple days early and stay on sailboats to maximize the party experience.
While some are going strong (Old World in Huntington Beach, Big Bear; reviews and dates are on PubClub), others are just starting this weekend. For example, there is the Le Mesa Oktoberfest in San Diego. It’s free to get into, tho there is a modest $5 charge to access the three – yes, three! – beer gardens. It runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 10 p.m., 9 p.m., on Sunday. PubClub will be there to provide a boots-on-the-ground review.
Meanwhile in Munich, this is the last weekend for the “alternative Oktoberfest,” which is a mini-celebration at restaurants while the actual Oktoberfest is canceled.

Be sure and get your tickets (and a team!?) for the Smackfest event’s October bash which combines the wildly popular Smackfest costumed beach volleyball tournament with a wild Oktoberfest-style beer garden. You can do one or the other or both! More than 600 tickets have already been sold and only 200 remain. The date is Saturday, Oct. 9.
Rocktoberfest Redondo Beach
The rockin’ in Rocktoberfest continues the weekend of Oct. 15-17 with three days of tribute bands in Seaside Lagoon. Set to perform is Queen Nation, Hollywood U2, Fan Halen, Kissed Alive, Fandango and many more. PubClub LIVE!, will be broadcasting on-site on Saturday and Sunday; come by and say hi!
Wine Road Trip To Mexico!?
PubClub has been invited to Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico, to put together a party trip! This is an increasingly popular tourist destination for wine and Baja cuisine. It is located 20 kilometres north of the City of Ensenada and 113 kilometres southeast of the border crossing from San Diego to Tijuana. Let me see a show of e-mails of who would be interested in this trip, which would included overnight lodging by e-mailing me at: [email protected]
National Sake Day & National Vodka Day
National Sake Day is Friday, Oct. 1, and National Vodka Day is Monday, Rocktober 4. Check out my National Sake Day video on TikTok featuring Yyku sake!
