Get Buzzed Without The Side Effects – Is This A Dream!?
A new hangover-free alcohol could be available in as little in five years.
So says a guy named Nutt.
Professor David Nutt has been working on a synthetic alcohol since college and thinks it will be perfected and regulated to the point it will be on the market by 2024. Called Alcarelle, it will give you a buzz without giving you a hangover.
Along with partner David Orren, he created an alcohol replacement molecule called “alcosynth.” He first discovered it as a PhD student in 1983 when he wias lookig for an antidote to alcohol.
It gets a little complicated for us non-chemists from here, but basically Nutt claims it can identify brian receptors that can make you drunk but not ones that induce headaches and, thus hangovers.
“We know where in the brain alcohol has its ‘good’ effects and ‘bad’ effects, and what particular receptors mediate that – Gaba, glutamate and other ones such as serotonin and dopamine,” he told the Independent. “The effects of alcohol are complicated but … you can target the parts of the brain you want to target.”
Is he nuts? Maybe, come 2024 we will be able to say yes. Or no, and raise a glass to cheers him for being able to drink without worrying about getting a hangover.
