Wishing I Were There And Not Here

Some of the best party times of my life have been at the Nightclub & Bar Show, the annual gathering of everyone who is everyone in the bar, nightclub, beer and spirits industry.
It’s the middle of March every year and takes place in the ideal place for such a thing: Las Vegas!
It’s two days of the best trade show in America. And unfortunately I am blogging not from the show floor or Vegas nightclubs but from PubClub.com’s World Headquarters in Manhattan Beach CA (not a bad alternative, mind you but I would rather be there than here).
I first learned of the event from a friend who happened to be in Vegas for another convention. His convention pass gave him access to this show, and he called me to say, “you have GOT to come to this event next year!”
And so I was the next year, and five straight years afterward.
The days consist of alcohol samples from about a hundred spirits distributors and manufacturers, plus a few dozen beers. Some booths have straight shots – imagine doing four small shots of fine, aged rum in a row and washing them down with beers and them sampling some of the finest tequilas – and at every corner I turned I ran into people I know from the South Bay’s bars.
That was just the daytime. At night, there are receptions and mixers at bars, lounges and those famous Vegas nightclubs. The one I remember the most – and it does not involve meeting Carmel Electra another year, by the way, which shows you how awesome it was – turned out to the the first nightclub party I attended.
It was put on by Bacardi O and was held at the House of Blues. It included a performance by Curque du Soleli. At every level, there were free drinks, as long as they contained Barcadi O. There were also appetizers brought around on trays and I felt like some huge executive or celebrity. So that’s what life is like for those people!
This was such a great event that I expanded PubClub.com’s coverage to include a photographer and PubClubette (first Dee, then Rosie). And we all still talk about the great times we had at the Bar & Nightclub Show.
Maybe I’ll i be back next year. Actually, hopefully I’ll make it back next year.
Cheers!
