After a day of being in touch with nature, be it hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting, fishing or some other outdoor activity, nothing tops it off like popping a cold one and reliving the adventure with others who just shared the experience with you. It’s almost a rite of passage, an end-of-the-day reward in place of a trophy or medal.
PubClub.com refers to this as “exercising and socializing.”
So it’s about time that a company would create a beer specifically for outdoor enthusiasts. Oh sure, there are beers which are marketed as active lifestyle brews, but that could change with a new person in charge of brand marketing. One brewer, tho, has joined with an outdoor camping company to create what might be the only true beer specifically made for drinking after taking part in outdoor activities.
Cleverly called Camp Coldie, it is a collaboaration between 10 Barrel Brewing and Scout Campers. It is a classic West Coast IPA. At 5% ABV it’s fairly light by IPA standards but is full in flavor, medium-bodied, subtly sweet and balanced with gentle bitterness. To this, Camp Coldie adds tropical notes of citrus, mango and grapefruit. It’s brewed with hops from Scout’s hometown in Yakima, WA.
“In line with 10 Barrel’s mantra – ‘Drink Beer Outside’ – Camp Coldie is an homage to overlanding and camping, a beer tailor-made for that special moment when you reach your destination after a long day road-tripping,” 10 Barrel stated in a press release. “As the newest member of the HopBurst family, Camp Coldie is here for the long haul.”
Nick Africano, Marketing Manager at Scout Campers, said, “at Scout, we build campers for people who’d rather be off-grid than on the couch – trailheads, resort lots, riverbanks. When the day’s done, crack a Camp Coldie, kick back, and stay put. Your camper’s home, and the beer’s cold.”

These people know all about the outdoors and beer; 10 Barrel was founded by three guys in Bend, Oregon, and Scout is based in Washington. With their Pacific Northwest roots, they are Cascadians to the core.
To celebrate this partnership, Scout Campers is giving away $25k towards a Scout Camper, and 10 Barrel will even stock the cooler! Simply click this link or follow @scoutcampers and @10barrelbrewing on Instagram to learn how to enter the contest.
So fill up a cooler for the camper and don’t forget the ice.
