Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro Produces 6,000 Barrels A Year
There’s a lot brewing at Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro in Bellingham, WA.
In fact, there’s so much brewing that it’s been recognized as the largest brewpub in the USA by the Brewers Association (BA), a trade organization for the craft beer industry.
In 2015, Boundary Bay produced 6,147 barrels of beer (1 barrel equals 31 gallons). The ranking is not for the largest brewery in terms of size, mind you, but volume of beer made at the brewpub.
A brewpub, as defined by the BA, is a brewery restaurant with at least 25 percent of beer sales onsite.
Boundary Bay Brewery, located at 1107 Railroad Avenue, features a taproom with 10 taps and two cask engines, as well as a bistro and outdoor dining including a patio and beer garden. Bellingham is along the Washington coast, closer to Canada than Seattle.
Boundary Bay Brewery is an independently owned and operated brewpub located in downtown Bellingham. The brew team (Aaron Jacob Smith, Steve Ellison and Bryan Krueger) crafts the beer in the original 17-barrel brewhouse.
“The growth of the craft beer industry over the years inspires us,” owner Ed Bennett said. “When we started in 1995 our goal was to provide our community with high-quality handcrafted beer and great food as a complement. After 21 years our goal remains the same.”
“In addition to producing award-winning beer, we pride ourselves on our extensive, locally-sourced food menu,” said General Manager Janet Lightner. “We’re thankful to provide a place for our community to bring their family and friends together for a genuine craft beer experience.”
