College football rivalries are like none other.
They involve fans dishing dirt on the other school, players showing distain for those on the other side of the ball, pranks and get-even response pranks and even coaches saying things like “my car ran out of gas in Michigan and I pushed it back into Ohio,” as Woody Hayes famously said about his hate for anything in the Wolverine state.
And now a beer company in Ohio, Saucy Brew Works, has gotten saucy about the Ohio State-Michigan rivarly, known in the Midwest as “The Game.” It has released a Sign Stealing craft beer that makes fun of Michigan’s sign stealing scandal that could well force Head Coach Jim Harbaugh out at the school and put the football team on NCAA probation (or at least having fans across the country lose any respect for it).
The beer is a limited-edition Double Dry Hopped Hazy Pale Ale (6.5% ABV) and will be available only on one day before the game. Then cans have a drawing of a football coach who is in the colors of Michigan and resembles Harbaugh.
“The series of ‘Stealing Signs’ began when the Houston Astros baseball team was mixed up in their signs scandal. We then released the ‘Stealing Signs’ beer that was baseball-themed,” marketing manager Amanda Kantor told Eleven Warriors. “With recent news out of Michigan, we thought it would be a great opportunity to have fun with this beer and get Ohio State fans excited for The Game.”
Saucy Brew Works will sell its limited-edition, Michigan-themed “Stealing Signs” beer on Friday at all five Ohio locations: Columbus (of couse), Cleveland, Pinecrest, Sandusky and Put-in-Bay will be sold in 16-oz four-packs on Friday at 11 a.m. The Columbus brewery is located in the Harrison West neighborhood at 443 W Third Ave.
“It’s an extremely limited run, so the public should come snag it before someone steals it,” Kantor said.
Pun intended.
The Ohio State-Michigan game is Saturday, Nov. 25, at Noon ET, at “the Big House” in Ann Arbor.
