International Whisk(e)y Day is a day created by several writers to honor Michael Jackson, a British writer and journalist known for his passion for whiskey and beer. Not the “other” Michael Jackson, it must be noted.
It occurs annually on Jackson’s birthday, March 27. The parenthesis in the title showcases the international flavor of the day and recognizes whisky (no e) from Scotland, Canada and Japan as well as Irish and American whiskeys (with an e).
The day was created in 2008 and officially launched in 2009 during the Whiskey Day Festival in the Netherlands. People are encouraged to raise a glass of whiskey, choose from various brands, and share their appreciation for the drink and Jackson’s work. It is not to be confused with World Whisky Day, which the third Saturday in May.
